Closing political declaration of the Humanitarian Caravan for Life, Peace and Permanence in the Territory

Today is the last day of the Caravan for Peace, Life and Permanence in the Territory. It has been more than four weeks travelling through the country. We started in Bogotá and went to the East of Antioquia, then to the South of Bolívar, Arauca, Chocó, Valle del Cauca and Cauca, finally arriving in Cali. We have travelled by chiva, bus and boats, traveling hundreds of kilometers.

On May 13, 2021, our organizations received sensitive accounts of absolutely horrific police conduct and practices which, if true, must be shocking to anyone with a human conscience. These accounts show that when there is a mentality at the highest levels of government that defines young demonstrators as “terrorist vandals” and issues the corresponding orders against them, they become targets and victims of criminal designs, with the gravest consequences imaginable.

The Nonam community calls on Buenaventura District Government to comply with its engagements taken for their return to their territory, the security and dignity of the indigenous people.
