+Through the Wire: The Woomera Breakout In March 2002, detainees of Australia's infamous Woomera detention centre staged a mass breakout in a spontaneous and desperate bid for freedom. Aided by hundreds of social justice activists protesting Australia's treatment of asylum seekers in mandatory detention, the incredible breakout is captured in this inspiring documentary. +This is Solidarity On November 10th 2007 a collective of Montreal groups organized a camp outside of the Laval Immigration Detention Center. This documentary shares images and interviews from this action. For more background please see below. +De Nadie The impoverished Central Americans who leave their countries in hopes of a better life in the United States have a rough road ahead of them. De Nadie shows how, during their perilous 2500-mile journey through Mexico, they put their last money, dignity, health and life on the line.

+A presentation by a delegate from the Indigenous Peoples' Border Summit This past November 7-10, 2007 marked the 2nd Indigenous Border Summit that took place in the San Xavier District of the Tohono O'odham Nation, on the US-Mexican border in Arizona and Sonora. The Summit, brought together delegates from all over North and Central America, sharing information about opposing the building and implementation of the "Apartheid Wall" between the US and Mexico. +Slideshow: The walls of global apartheid; presented by members of No One Is Illegal-Montreal +Slideshow: A short history of migrant justice organizing in Montreal (2001-2007); presented by Sarita Ahooja of No One Is Illegal +Presentation: Inside the Canadian immigration detention system; presented by Arash Aslani and Jared Will of Solidarity Across Borders Arash, a refugee from Iran, was a detainee at the Laval Immigration Prevention Center near Montreal for 10 months. He will speaks about the conditions at the detention center, and his experiences as a migrant in Europe and Canada. Jared Will is an immigration lawyer and migrant justice activist. +Presentation: Forced displacement and state terrorism in Colombia; presented by le Projet accompagnement solidarité Colombie (PASC) A member of PASC will present the concrete case of forced displacement in the Bajo Atrato region of Colombia in 1997. Through a series of photos we will view the links between repression and economic interests, as well as the resistance of rural communities in the face of State Terrorism.

BACKGROUND

On November 10th, 2007 immigrants, migrants, refugees, and allies gathered in front of the Laval Immigration Detention Center (officially named "Centre de prévention de l'immigration") to stand in solidarity with all those detained as a result of a racist and exploitive immigration system. The Laval Detention Center is a prison where at any one time there can be upwards of 100 immigrants held, including families with children. These walls unjustly separate families and destroy lives. They are part of a world apartheid system that controls movement and displaces entire communities. The camp was the creation of an autonomous space to voice solidarity with all those detained and opened a forum for collective discussions. Moreover, our actions in front of the Laval Immigration Detention Center where initiated in solidarity with movements fighting similar walls; from the US-Mexico border to Palestine. Our ongoing organizing is rooted in support and solidarity with indigenous struggles. We recognize that Turtle Island (the lands we know as Quebec, Canada and the US) is stolen land.
