Sign online letter to urge for invetigation

On June 25, 2019, according to anonymous sources, including inmates and functionaries of La Picota prison, on Tuesday between 7:00 and 8:00 at night Rodolfo Cuello Cabria was found dead. He had been in isolation in the “Unit of Special Treatment.
According to the denouncements, several inmates had refused to be locked up in their cells as protest due to the delay in arrival of food. In response to the protest the guards decided to throw gases at them. As if such a measure wasn’t enough, one guard proceeded to hit Rodolfo Cuello Cabria with a baton, which provoked a reaction by the inmate, and in this moment several guards came to join in on the beating with “tonfas”, fists and kicks, which caused his death.
They also mentioned that while carrying out the medical inspections they found trace of multiple hematomas, rib fractures and several contusions on internal organs, which probably caused his death.
Additionally, several rumors have been circulated about the manipulation of the scene of the crime and several prison functionaries have tried to divert attention suggesting that it was a quarrel among prisoners.
The Committee of Solidarity with Political Prisoners, manifests its concern for the occurrence of said acts inside the La Picota prison. It also demands that authorities, especially the Attorney General and the Legal Medicine Institute, assume the investigation with absolute rigor and celerity, with the goal of identifying those responsible for this assassination.
We also urge the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) to take precautionary measures with the guards present during the incident so that they do not intervene in the investigation. We also ask the INPEC to step up protection measures of the people who are incarcerated so that their fundamental rights to life and human dignity are respected.
