The Call Of the East Kamouraska Camp would like to invite anyone interested in fighting the extraction and transportation of fossil fuels to meet and create allyships from July 31st to August 9th. The location will be disclosed a few days prior to the event, on our website (appeldelest.org). The first camp assembly will be held on August 1st.

The major activities and gatherings will take place on the weekends, and there will be increased capacity for accommodations during this time. A collective dinner, a closure assembly and a night of performance will take place on the last Saturday, August 8th.

Objectives :

The Call of the East camp aims at increasing our capacity to defeat different fossil fuel extraction projects, which are threatening wild and urban habitats. Here is what we hope to see emerge during and after the camp:

  • Theoretical and hands-on workshops
  • Merging of different communities in their struggles
  • Creation of long-lasting bonds between participants and the currently mobilized groups
  • Political organizing
  • Collective search for future paths of political struggles

Principles :

Workshops will be given throughout the duration of the camp. We can make time slots available to you to share your knowledge, experience, zines or other publications. Please make sure that what you will present is in accordance with the following principles:

  • Environmentalism
  • Feminism
  • Anticolonialism
  • Horizontal / grassroots organization
  • Independent of political parties and big NGOs

People and groups which are in line with, or open to these principles and values, are invited to the camp. Sexist, racist, homophobic and transphobic behaviors will not be tolerated. Sexual assault survivors or their support people who need support can contact us by writing to: appelsaferspace@riseup.net

In order to meet the goals of the camp, we ask campers to be especially sensitive to alcohol consumption and other issues pertaining to collective living. Discussions regarding these issues will happen during the first camp assembly.

If you want more information on our safer space policy, please refer to: appeldelest.org/en/saferspace

We will discuss adopting a code of conduct at the camp’s first assembly. Please refer to the following link to review the suggested code of conduct:  appeldelest.org/en/codedevie

Because we want the camp’s organization to be horizontal, everyone will have to do their part, such as washing the dishes and cooking. Please be mindful and make a special effort to avoid gendered division of labour.

How to get there:

The Call of the East has a bulletin board (appeldelest.org/babillard) on which you can offer and look for rides. There is also a local ridesharing website (caleche.bazaroccidental.org). Finally, there is a Facebook page where people offer rides to and from Bas-St-Laurent (https://www.facebook.com/groups/120861027989576).

Accomodation:

We ask campers that they set up their tents in spaces selected for this purpose. We would like to keep indoor housing for families or people who cannot sleep outside, for health or other reasons. People wanting to use indoor housing can contact us at campdelest@riseup.net

Funding:

To help us cover the expenses related to food, sanitation and camp infrastructure, we suggest that participants donate between 25 and 50 dollars for the whole camp, or 5 dollars a day. The funding that the Call of the East received will not cover the full cost of the event. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

What to bring:

We ask everyone who can to bring dumpstered food. Collective kitchen equipment and toilet paper will also be very appreciated. We are also looking for big tents, gazebos, and other items to make collective tents comfortable. Personal items such as sleeping bags, camping tents and pillows will not be provided.

We’re hoping this camp will make the movement stronger, and we’re excited to see you there !
